Back when I worked at Hayes Microcomputer Products, the modems came in a nice extruded aluminum case. I once suggested that they should take a few cases, anodize them with a nice purple tint. They could hold a contest or something, on Jimi’s birthday, to give away these Purple Hayes modems.
They didn’t go for it. Heaven forbid they do anything cool, that might detract from their professional corporate image.
Perhaps if they had listened to me, they would still be a force in the market today.
